Smallest Catholic Church In Kenya-Mai Mahiu


On our way to Mt.Longonot for a hike we pass-by this small church on the slopes of RiftValley it is located on Mai Mahiu –Naivasha road which connects Nairobi and Nakuru counties.We learn it’s the smallest church in East Africa.This church is used by people of all faith mainly travellers who come to pray and pay homage to the prisoners who built the magnificent road on the slopes.
There are three steps to the church which symbolises The Holy Trinity; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit according to the catholic faith and teaching. On the wall behind the altar, there is a wall painting of baby Jesus and his mother Mary and Saint Joseph his father surrounded by angels “Nativity of Jesus” ,
it is believed that the painting was done in 1943 by the POW. This picture symbolises the victory that has been achieved by religion across the world .in front the altar there is a grotto of mother Mary hence you can always stop by and say the Rosary to the blessed virgin. On the altar there are also fresh flower
The Inside walls are scribbled in Latin;Venite Ad Memone (Come to me my people), Haec Est Victoria Quae Vincit Mundum Fides Mustra (This is the victory that has won the world by our faith), Benedicite Coeli Domino Benedicite (Blessed be the sky and blessed again) and  Universa Germinatia In Terra Domino( everything will germinate in the sky and also on the earth).
The church is managed by the Italian embassy.there are three steps to the church  which symbolises The Holy Trinity;God the Father ,God the Son and God the Holy Spirit according to the catholic faith and teaching.
The church Is taken care by Anne nyakio the caretaker of the church who have worked with the for the past 16 years . The church is managed by the Italian embassy.the church can host upto 12 adults and according to Nyakio ots operates from 9.00 AM to 5.00PM

·         The church is popularly known to hold wedding and photoshoots due its ancient architectural designs.
·         Used by travellers who stop by to worship.
·         The church is also used by long distance truck drivers who stop by for a prayer.
·         The locals call it “msikiti””mosque where they also come to pray and worship.
